Important note: Registration in the Childcare Portal
To ensure that your child can be considered for the allocation of a childcare place in Darmstadt, registration in the City of Darmstadt's Childcare Portal is required. Please register your child as early as possible – ideally from birth onwards – as a childcare place cannot be allocated without prior registration.
TU Kinderhäuser
At both university-affiliated child care facilities TU Little Lights on Campus Lichtwiese and TU CityHüpfer on Campus Stadtmitte offer spots for children aged 1 to 6. The educational responsibilty lies in the hands of Terminal for Kids gGmbH.
TU Kinderhaus Stadtmitte provides daycare for 22 children aged 1-3 years and for 44 children aged 3-6 years.
The spots are primarily available to parents who work or study at TU Darmstadt. Children living in communities outside of Darmstadt can be accepted.

- Step 1 – Parent Portal of the City of Science Darmstadt
The first step in registering your child is via the Childcare Portal Darmstadt. Enter your desired Kinderhaus or both TU Kinderhäuser in first or second priority. The portal confirms your registration and sends you a code. Please ask the management of your chosen TU Kinderhaus to activate this code via email; they will also send you a registration form.
- Step 2- Registration form
Please complete the registration form promptly and return it to the responsible manager of your chosen childcare center in a timely manner. In addition to the contact details, this registration form provides information about your affiliation to TU Darmstadt and is therefore mandatory for the registration process. The data collection is subject to the provisions of the General Data Protection Act and is stored exclusively for the registration process. This concludes the registration process for you.
- Step 3- Further procedure for the allocation of places
The TU Kinderhäuser managers place the interested families on a waiting list according to the allocation guidelines (Vergaberechtslinien). In consultation with TU Darmstadt, decisions are made on a regular basis, based on the priority list, as to which families will be offered a spot next.
The uniKITA, an initiative organised by parents, runs three nursery groups (at Lichtwiese and in the Martinsviertel) and two forest kindergarten groups (at Lichtwiese).
At uniKITA, parents are actively involved in the work of the association, giving them the opportunity to help shape their children’s environment and daily routine. Regular dialogue with the educational staff, as well as close cooperation with other families, strengthens the sense of community. This creates a space at uniKITA where families at similar stages of life can engage in conversation, share experiences, support one another and make new friends.

Note: As an organisation with close links to the higher education sector, our childcare services are primarily aimed at families with links to higher education institutions in Darmstadt. At the same time, we also warmly welcome families without such links. Provided there are places available, admission is also possible.
To register your child, please first use the childcare portal of Wissenschaftsstadt Darmstadt. The easiest way to find our groups is under ‘Details of the facility – Facility– uniKITA Darmstadt e.V.' (at the very bottom of the list). Then select all the uniKITA groups that you are interested in. Afterwards, please also register your child using the registration form on our website. This ensures that we have all the information we need to allocate a place.
Parents can find an overview of all childcare facilities in Darmstadt, as well as the central online registration system, on the childcare portal. The portal lists all the addresses, contact persons and telephone numbers for nurseries, kindergartens, daycare centres and after-school clubs in Darmstadt.
