Family is…
…diverse and encompasses all communities in which people take long-term responsibility for each other in private contexts, provide care and practise solidarity.
Family can be based on both biological and chosen ties. It includes e.g. parents with child(ren), single parents, non-marital relationships, queer relationships, patchwork and foster families, rainbow families and other communities in which people provide long-term care for each other. Families can live in the same household or in different locations (nationally or internationally).
Work, study and family should be compatible. For TU Darmstadt, this means that it is actively committed to creating a supportive environment that meets the needs of different families. At the same time, it calls on all members to play an active role in shaping this through respectful co-operation and mutual openness and consideration. Diversity is seen as a strength: TU Darmstadt uses its freedom to act in discretionary decisions in favour of promoting diverse family arrangements
