At TU Darmstadt, there are several different professorships, for instance assistant professorships (initially limited for six years) with tenure track (W2) and full (tenured) professorships (W2/W3).
Our professors are granted academic freedom in accordance with the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany (GG) (Article 5 Section 3 Sentence 1). Their right to strive for scientific knowledge autonomously with regard to content and methods used, and to organise their teaching with regard to content and didactics independently is, therefore, guaranteed by the German constitution.
