In process management, specific roles are required for different tasks.
The following roles are always required for the execution of processes: Process owner, process responsible and process participants.
For the “doing” of process management itself, process managers and process modelers are also needed.

The process management manual “Modeling Conventions” defines binding rules for modeling processes in the SAP Signavio software tool.
Among other things, it contains:
- basic rules for the representation of process diagrams
- explanation of the BPMN 2.0 elements used and their meaning;
- glossary categories: roles, IT systems, documents;
- rules on additional information that can be added to diagrams or individual tasks, e.g. process status, process owner, use of documents, etc.
